This menu was commissioned by a distinguished public relations and design company for a restaurant on a floor of Taipei’s Xinyi Nanshan Mitsukoshi department store. The box was made of functional fabric, presenting a graceful and elegant appearance, while the interior used four-fold art paper pages with a texture different from that of a regular menu. Although the downside of the designated paper pages was already known, the company insisted on using them due to contractual obligations. Unfortunately, within a week of use, the paper pages began to show signs of cracking, and two weeks later, separation occurred on both sides.

Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning the art paper pages inside the menu box. They are made of artificial camel velvet functional fabric, lined with mixed artificial suede fabric, and bound with elastic flat rope. However, due to the pages’ tendency to become loose, additional fixed binding is needed before placing them inside the elastic flat rope. In addition, the folding crease at the K-line of the art paper pages is also the main cause of cracking and bursting. Despite these shortcomings, the menu box is still a beautifully designed and well-crafted piece that is worthy of collection and admiration.

The binding uses elastic flat rope to give the box more texture, but the inner pages are prone to looseness and require additional binding before being placed in the elastic flat rope. In addition, the creases on the K-line of the art paper inner pages are the main cause of cracking, which needs to be specially noted.
